When it comes to making a Drupal site really work, no module is more essential than Views.

In fact, Views is so critical to a Drupal site's success that it is being incorporated into Drupal 8 (to be released around August 2013).

In this practical, hands-on demo, Steve introduces Views and demonstrates ten different ways that it can be used on your site, from a simple blog page to a dynamic slideshow.

The target audience of the session is people who are absolute beginners when it comes to using Views.

"Building off 2 presentations by Matt Farina at DrupalCon Denver, I would like to discuss specific techniques to speed up Front-End performance. In case you missed his presentations, the key statistic to justify this conversation is that 87% of the time it takes to load a website happens on the Front-End and for mobile, that number jumps to 97%. This is a HUGE amount of time that has nothing to do with sql queries or server caching and makes this conversation a must, especially given the rise of mobile.

"Most "performance" presentations are designed for those developers that straddle the line between coder and sysadmin. In reality many Drupal sites are built completely from the administrative interface by non-coders, non-sysadmins - we call "site builders." This unique role is often overlooked during in-depth, technical presentations and relegated to "Module XYZ 101" sessions.

"Drupal comes with a lot of flexibility in the theme layer out of the box. But some times you just need to do something different than the way then its done by default and dig further into the depths of the theme layer and how pages are built. This session is geared towards those who already have some fundamental understanding of theming (eg, the different components of a theme, sub-theming, and where the theme resides). But, want to get a more in depth understanding of how to customize there theme.

What we'll cover in this session:

"The Federal Government is releasing a huge amount of information as part of the Open Government movement. It is a hopeful sign that the United States and India have put Drupal in the technical center of the interface between governments and citizens by releasing an open source Drupal distribution designed as the front end for agency web sites.
